Dan Corley is the recipient of the Rhode Island Foundation’s 2023 Murray Family Prize for Community Enrichment. The $50,000 prize was awarded to Dan in recognition of his leadership at Community Prep over the last 40 years.

When presenting Dan with the award, Paula McNamara—daughter of Terrence and Suzanne Murray, whose family established the Murray Family Prize for Community Enrichment at Rhode Island Foundation—said, “Dan’s long commitment to promoting the educational success of children from diverse backgrounds is a remarkable standard for others to aspire to. We take enormous pride in recognizing him for his foresight and dedication.”

Since Dan founded the school in 1984, Community Prep has provided over 1,000 students with a rigorous education that emphasizes opportunities for success. Of Community Prep’s 994 graduates, 97% have been accepted into college-preparatory high schools, and 83% of college-aged alums have or are enrolled to receive a college degree.

“Our students are challenged to become confident, independent learners and to develop a true sense of community while at our school. Many have become wonderful citizens who take this sense of community and justice into their lives,” Dan said. “I thank the Murray family for honoring all that our students, alumni, families, faculty, staff, trustees, volunteers, and visitors have achieved.”
