Community Prep was excited to welcome author, poet, former New England Patriot, and Superbowl Champion Malcolm Mitchell to campus for a visit with our fourth through seventh grade students. With the help of student readers fourth-grader Emmy and sixth-grader Akzel, Malcolm read aloud his newest children’s book, A World Within Reach—a story about a young boy named Mylo Maxey who discovers a magical pair of goggles that take him on a journey across the country. Through Mylo’s adventure, students learned how reading, when combined with digital connectivity, can unlock new worlds, spark curiosity, and open the door to endless opportunities.
Throughout his visit, Malcolm shared his personal story of overcoming challenges with literacy and spoke about the life-changing impact reading had on his own journey—from NFL champion to published author. His message encouraged students to embrace reading as a powerful tool for connection, imagination, and growth.
In addition to sharing his love of literacy, Malcolm brought excitement and fun to the event with fun trivia to test reading comprehension, signed books and footballs, and plenty of inspiration. Malcom left students feeling motivated and empowered to explore the world through reading (and a copy of his book!).
We are grateful to Cox Communications for making this visit possible through their partnership and support.
